New Students
The move-in process begins on Saturday, August 25 for new students in living-learning programs, and on Sunday, August 26 for all remaining new residents. Students are strongly encouraged to participate in New Resident Orientation (NRO) to assist in getting acclimated to the University. For detailed information about move-in, including "things to bring" and the NRO schedule, visit the NRO Web site.

Returning Students
Move-in for the Courtyards begins on August 15 and South Campus Commons begins on August 22. All other returning students can begin moving in on Sunday, August 26. Meal plan for returning residents begins on Sunday at 4 p.m. Visit the Resident Life Web site for more information.

Family Weekend 2007
Online registration for Family Weekend will be available beginning Wednesday, August 15.  We strongly encourage you to register early for Family Weekend since certain events will sell out due to the popularity of Family Weekend and limited space availability. For more information, including the full schedule of events, visit the Family Weekend Web site at www.familyweekend.umd.edu.  We look forward to seeing you at Family Weekend!

Help is Needed for the 5th Annual Silent Auction
Donations are needed for the 5th Annual Maryland Parents Association Silent Auction, which will be held during Family Weekend.  All proceeds from the Silent Auction benefit the UM Parents Association Student Scholarship Fund and gifts made to the Association are tax-deductible.
Help support this important effort by donating an item for the auction or soliciting friends and/or businesses in your area for contributions. Suggestions include weekend or week-long stays at vacation homes, restaurant gift certificates, tickets to shows, gift baskets, paintings/collectable prints, UM memorabilia, spa/massage services, teeth whitening... the sky is the limit.  And, don't feel limited by location—in addition to our Maryland families, we have lots of families from the Boston, New York, New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania and south Florida regions.
Click here to access the Silent Auction Donation Form (requires Adobe Acrobat Reader).

UM Alert

Please encourage your student to register for UM Alert—the university's emergency text messaging system. UM Alert is a software-based web application that allows the University of Maryland to send emergency text messages to cell phones, pagers, BlackBerries, PDAs, and/or email accounts. When an emergency occurs on the campus, the university will send a text message within minutes to all registered devices. UM Alert is a connection to real-time updates, instructions on where to go, what to do, or what not to do, who to contact and other important information. Click here for more information.

Parenting a College Student
