Campus Safety update - Feb. 9, 2013

The University Police Department is committed to ensuring a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff and all members of the UMD community.  Over the last several days there have been a few robberies reported off-campus, as well as one on-campus incident.  We take each of these incidents very seriously and our detectives are actively investigating the on-campus occurrence.  Prince George’s County Police have made two arrests in the off-campus cases they are investigating.  In another case, it was determined that the reported robbery was fabricated.
Your safety is our primary concern.  As a result of these incidents, we have increased our uniform patrols and are working closely with PGPD’s Robbery Suppression Team.  We are currently reviewing videos from our 24/7 campus video surveillance system to identify suspects.  We ask all members of the campus community to be vigilant and report all suspicious activity immediately.
