Volunteer OpportunitiesVolunteer Opportunities

Opportunities exist on several committees coordinated by the Parent Advisory Council. Parents can volunteer for a committee or program by selecting the appropriate boxes on the Parents Association Membership Activation Form or by contacting the Office of Parent & Family Affairs.

Fundraising and Development

The Fundraising and Development committee brainstorms ideas for fundraising projects and assists with the coordination of fundraising events to benefit the Parents Initiatives Fund and the Parents Association Student Scholarship Fund. Current projects include a golf tournament and the annual Silent Auction (during Family Weekend).

Silent Auction

The Silent Auction committee plans the Parents Association's annual Silent Auction, which takes place during Family Weekend. Committee members work to secure donations and assist with the coordination of the Silent Auction. Funds raised from the Silent Auction benefit the Parent Scholarship Award program.

Special Events

The Special Events committee brainstorms programs and events to engage parents in the Parents Association and the University community. Members of this committee assist with the coordination of Family Weekend and the recruitment of volunteers for Spring Open Houses and Move-In Weekend.

Awards and Recognition

The Awards and Recognition committee is responsible for coordinating the award process for the Parent Initiative Fund Grant, the Outstanding Academic Advisor Award, and the Outstanding Faculty Award. This committee also plans opportunities to honor and thank parents for volunteering for events.

Communication

The Communication committee considers opportunities for enhancing contact and communication with all Terrapin parents and assists with the creation and development of current publications including eConnection, a monthly email distributed to members of the Parents Association, and Terrapin Parent, the University's newsletter for parents (distributed twice each year).
